A group of musicians recorded a live album inside a shuttered mill the week before redevelopment crews arrive. They used the weaving hall’s echo and invited one audience: people who had worked in the building.
The set is instrumental. Lyrics were dropped after a former supervisor said he did not want the room turned into a story about him while he was sitting in it. The band agreed that the room could be the subject without a verse explaining it.
What happens next
Power came from a generator in the yard. The hall’s own supply was disconnected last year. A take was stopped twice when the generator coughed, and those breaks were left in the recording at the band’s request.
The developer allowed the session and did not ask for a logo on the sleeve. In exchange, the band will be out before Monday, when the first interior walls come down.
