A restored black-and-white film returns to a single-screen cinema on Friday. The last known print was damaged in a warehouse leak, and a small team repaired it frame by frame over fourteen months. The digital scan exists because the print may not survive another journey.

The cinema will show it twice a day for a fortnight, with an intermission the film originally had and modern halls often cut. The owner said people complain about the break until they are grateful for it.

What happens next

A film historian will speak before the Saturday evening show, briefly. The owner set a limit of eight minutes after a previous introduction ran longer than the first reel and thinned the room.

Tickets are the ordinary price. The owner refused a “restoration premium”, arguing that a higher ticket would limit the film to the audience that already knows it.
