Telecom crews have finished a fibre loop around the old industrial estate, where workshops spent the rains losing calls in the middle of an order. The copper line into the estate had no second path. A single cut took down card machines and the dispatch phone together.

The new loop enters from two gates. An engineer walked the route with the estate association so the second path does not sit in the same storm drain as the first. That was the failure last August.

What happens next

Smaller units, which share a building and a connection, will be switched before the large sheds. The association asked for that order because a big plant can fall back on a private radio set, and a ten-person workshop cannot.

Billing does not change this month. The operator said the loop is a resilience spend, and it will not be used as a reason to move every workshop onto a dearer business plan.
