The aviation regulator has told carriers to publish on-time figures every Monday, with weather delays separated from delays caused by the airline’s own turnaround. A single blended percentage will no longer satisfy the rule.
Airlines already file the data. What changes is the public table, which must sit on the carrier’s website in the same format for every company. The regulator said passengers should not have to know which airline uses a generous definition of “on time”.
What happens next
Ground-handling firms, who are often blamed in the private argument and absent from the public one, are not required to publish their own number. A handling executive said that leaves the airline holding a delay it may not fully control.
The first comparable table is due next Monday. Officials said they will check that the weather column is not used as a drawer for every late inbound aircraft.
