Para-athletes have a dedicated window at the civic stadium: six to eight on weekday mornings, with the throws cage set before they arrive. Until now they trained in the gaps of the able-bodied schedule, which meant a cage that was sometimes still being moved at the start of their session.
The state association asked for the window before the national trials, not after. A coach said athletes were rehearsing on a field that did not match the venue, and then being judged as if it had.
What happens next
Stadium staff agreed on the condition that the window ends at eight, when the school hire begins. There will be no informal overrun. That firmness, the athletes said, is preferable to a soft promise that slides every week.
A small grant covers an extra groundskeeper for the dawn shift. The association is still looking for a second throwing frame so two athletes are not sharing one cage in a two-hour window.
